Together We Give
As we come in to the holiday season filled with feasts, festivities and presents, it’s important to remember that acts of kindness are some of the most powerful gifts we can give. Whether it’s offering a kind smile, helping hand, or an hour of your time anyone can make a positive impact through kindness – forever changing the world around you.
Meet Kat, a Senior Coastsiders volunteer. Kat lives in El Granada with her husband John, their cat Lulu and their tripod-dog Megan. She is the CEO of a business consulting company and the co-host of a job-talk podcast.
“Last year at this time I wasn’t feeling very connected to my community. I asked myself what I could do to change that and knew that volunteering would help.
When I started looking at opportunities to volunteer, the first place I reached out to was Senior Coastsiders and their meal delivery program. As my mother become ill, she had a Meals on Wheels service in Southern California. For her, it was more than getting a hot lunch delivered, she also experienced care and connection. It felt right to me to volunteer at Senior Coastsiders and pay-it-forward by doing the same thing.
Fast forward almost a year later, I definitely feel more connected to my community! My weekly meal delivery in El Granada has connected me with wonderful seniors, staff and volunteers. My Wednesday morning deliveries are the highlight of my week! I enioy visiting with my neighbors receiving meals and love the way I feel more connected to my community. Volunteering is an amazing way to spread kindness and connection in our world.”
